Appreciation from Prof. Hitoshi IEDA, the former chairman of ISC.

Dear all EASTS members:
How are you? This is from Hitoshi IEDA (the University of Tokyo, Japan), the former chairman of EASTS-International Scientific Committee. After successfully publishing in the end of October both EASTS-Journal and EASTS-Proceedings of the last conference of EASTS, I resigned the position and handed it over to Prof. Akimasa FUJIWARA in the beginning of November. I would like to deeply appreciate the cooperation and support of you and all EASTS members.
Professor FUJIWARA in Hiroshima University, Japan, is one of the winners of YASOSHIMA Yoshi-no-suke Prize of EASTS, and doubtlessly I believe, the most suitable person to take care of the EASTS-ISC. I expect your continual support to him and his staff.
Well, I worked as the chairman for six years from 2005 over the three conferences of EASTS in Dalian, Surabaya and Jeju. What I and my staff could contribute for EASTS was of course limited, however, followings are some of the changes achieved in the last six years:
- introduced the fully web-based management and publication of papers which could reduce the required labor, the monetary cost as well as the lead-time,
- introduced the new category of papers, namely gpractical papersh, in order to extend the field of EASTS from academicians also to the world of practice,
- widely enriched the diversity of virtues of the EASTS-prizes in order to appeal what kind of studies EASTS does expect for papers, and
- created the new journal of EASTS (Asian Transport Studies) which contains especially qualified papers
