COURSE DISCRIPTION
This session in Urban
Transportation Planning and Policy (CE73.13) covers a variety of themes, all
related to transportation demand analysis and modeling. It deals both theories
and examples for many kinds of transportation modes. They are important for
transportation practitioners and urban planners. Many of the topics introduced
in the session will be presented at the intermediate level. To have the
knowledge and/or understandings about the microeconomic theory is highly
recommended.

March 13 (Thu) Class 2 Basic mathematics in transportation demand analysis
March 14 (Fri) Class 3 Consumer behavior in microeconomic theory
March 17 (Mon) Class 4 Trip-based approach vs. activity-based approach and the four step model
March 20 (Thu) Class 5 Travel generation and distribution
March 21 (Fri) Class 6 Discrete choice modeling (1)
March 24 (Mon) Class 7 Discrete choice modeling (2)
March 27 (Thu) Class 8 Discrete choice modeling (3)
March 28 (Fri) Class 9 Examples of travel demand analysis
March 31 (Mon) Class 10 Traffic assignment model (1)
April 3 (Thu) Class 11 Traffic assignment model (2)
April 4 (Fri) Final examination.
GRADING
Grading will be
determined as follows:
Attendance: 30% (Note that
you will lose your credit if you miss 3 classes or more)
Final Examination: 70%.
